Planning Your Family Trip to Disneyland Paris: Essential Tips for a Magical Experience
Oh my gosh! A trip to Disneyland Paris is a dream come true for many families, but a little planning can make the experience even more magical. Whether it’s your first time or you’re a seasoned Disney traveller, these essential tips will help you make the most of your visit.
We have been lucky to have been 3 times over the last 5.5 years, in September 2019 in their Lion King season when my eldest was almost 3 and a half. Then again at Easter 2022, as a family of four and with friends. This time my eldest was 6 (the day after we arrive home) and we had little baby S with us as well (she was just about to turn 6 months). As an added bonus we also had my daughters friend and parents coming along for the ride which made it even more fun!
We had always said to Lil we would return when she was older so I started the search late 2021 to book it for her Christmas present and go for her birthday (double present ha). Then recently in January 2025, I was desperate to see it in all it’s Christmas magical glory, and we combined it with a night in Paris city too!
Each time I searched different sites to find the best deal, looked at slightly different dates, different ways to travel, different Disney hotels, booking separately or as a package… it can be a minefield if you haven’t been before so I thought why note share my tips for making it a magical holiday for all.
Travel
We have now travelled 3 different ways - plane, car and train.
In 2019, we travelled from London, St Pancreas via Eurostar directly to Disneyland. From where we live in the Midlands we decided to stay the night before in London (great way to extend the holiday) so we could get the first Eurostar out the following morning to make the most of our time at DLP. Eurostar no longer goes direct and you have to change at Lille or Paris and tickets are normally available 4 months in advance.
In 2022 we flew with EasyJet from Manchester to CDG, getting the Magic Shuttle bus to the parks. Personally, we found the airport a bit confusing to find where we were meant to go and the airport staff didn’t seem to understand what we were asking, though the fact we had a pram and a 6 month old baby with us may have added to the stress. It is however a short flight and depending on what time of the year you are travelling, you can get some very cheap flights.
This time we chose to drive over, our first time ever on the Le Shuttle, we found the experience really easy. Again, we booked a cheap Travelodge (in Ashford) the night before and the night we returned so we could make the most of our trip, and also to break up the driving time with two young children. We added a couple of nights at an Airbnb on the outskirts of Paris so we could explore the city. The drive from Calais to Paris/Disneyland was a breeze, so don’t let that put you off.
Where to Stay
Some people prefer to stay outside of the parks in hotels such as Explorers Hotel or Staycity Apartments. A lot of places in Marne-la-Vallée offer a free shuttle bus to the parks or you can jump on a short train ride.
The first two times we visited we stayed at Seqouia Lodge, a 3* Disney hotel onsite. We loved it here, with the rooms Bambi themed it gave an old American Colonial forest feel. Surrounded by pine tree’s, Sequoia Lodge is just a 10-15 minute walks to the parks along the side of the lake and through Disney Village. There are two restaurants and a bar area (with an open fire!) as well as an indoor-outdoor swimming pool with a water slide if you are wanting some downtime.
This year we stayed at Hotel Santa Fe, a 2* Disney hotel onsite. This hotel is a colourful homage to Route 66, the American Southwest and Pixar’s movie Cars. Slightly further away from the parks than Sequioa Lodge, but still only a 20 minute walk along the river, round the lake and through Disney Village. There is no kettle in your room here but you can get a free hot drink from the machine on the ground floor (different coffee’s and delicious hot chocolate). There is an all-you-can-eat restaurant and a bar for some downtime, plus you can meet characters at specifics time in the foyer.
Both hotels are great, depending on your personal needs and budget I would stay in either again.
8 Tips for Making Your Planning & Holiday a Smooth Process
1. Download the Disneyland Paris App
Before you even step foot in the park, make sure to download the Disneyland Paris App. This handy tool provides real-time updates on wait times for rides, meet & greet schedules, showtimes, and even restaurant availability. It’s a must-have for navigating the parks efficiently and ensuring you don’t miss out on must-do attractions.
2. Book Table Service Restaurants in Advance
If you’re planning to enjoy a table-service meal, make reservations as early as possible! You can book up to 2 months in advance through the app or 12 months in advance if you book directly through Disney as part of a hotel package. Popular restaurants like Auberge de Cendrillon and Downtown New York fill up quickly, so if you have a must-do on your list, set those calendar reminders!
3. Pregnancy & Disability Priority Pass – A Must-Have
For expectant mothers or visitors with disabilities, Disneyland Paris offers a Priority Pass that provides access to dedicated entrances for rides, shows, and character meet & greets. If you’re eligible, this pass can make a world of difference by reducing long wait times and making your experience much more comfortable. Be sure to visit Guest Services with the necessary documentation to apply.
4. Bring Snap Lock Bags for Breakfast
If you’re staying at a Disneyland hotel and breakfast is included, bringing some snap lock bags can be a game-changer. You can pack a few pastries or snacks to take with you for later in the day, perfect for keeping your little ones happy between meals and potentially saving you a small fortune. Just be discreet! 🙊
5. The Benefits of Half Board
Half Board meal plans are a fantastic way to save money and avoid stress when it comes to dining. You prepay for meals (breakfast plus lunch/dinner each day), which means fewer surprises when it comes to food expenses, and it often includes some of the best restaurants in the park. Plus, it allows you to try delicious Disney dining experiences without worrying about budgeting on the day. If this isn’t for you, there are plenty of options for quick service food around the parks.
6. Make the Most of Early Magic Hour
Guests staying at a Disney hotel get access to Early Magic Hour, which allows entry into the park an hour before it opens to the general public. This is the perfect time to hit the big rides like Hyperspace Mountain, Peter Pan’s Flight, and Big Thunder Mountain before queues get too long. Another pro tip: During the fireworks or parades, some of the busiest attractions may have shorter wait times, so it’s worth checking the app for queue updates. We found the Studio’s park quietens down mid-evening as everyone moves to the Disneyland park for final parades and fireworks.
7. Leave Space in Your Luggage for Shopping
Disneyland Paris has exclusive merchandise that you won’t find on ShopDisney or in other Disney parks. Whether it’s a limited-edition spirit jersey, adorable plushies, or beautiful collectibles, you’ll want some extra room in your suitcase. Consider packing an extra foldable bag or leaving some space in your luggage for those magical souvenirs!
8. Join Facebook Groups & Watch YouTube Vlogs
One of the best ways to stay updated with the latest tips, ride closures, and seasonal changes is by joining Disneyland Paris Facebook groups. Fellow Disney fans share reviews, packing tips, and advice based on their recent visits. One of my favourites is Disneyland Paris Tips for Brits.
Additionally, YouTube vlogs can be a fantastic way to visualise the park before your trip. If you're visiting during a specific season (Halloween, Christmas, etc.), channels like Brummymummyof2 provide helpful insights on what to expect.
Planning ahead ensures your Disneyland Paris adventure is as stress-free and enjoyable as possible. Use these tips, and maximise your time, budget, and overall experience, creating magical memories that will last a lifetime! ✨
