As mums, it is easy to put ourselves last. We place importance on looking after almost everybody else, our spouse, partner, kids, pets, other family members and friends, and end up forgetting to look after ourselves.
When our proverbial cup starts getting really low, we turn to self-care to fill it back up.
Self-care can mean many things. We often think that it needs to be something time consuming and expensive, such as a massage or a mani-pedi. But self-care doesn’t only have to be this.
What if it could be something easy that we could do every day?
What if self-care was also the food you eat?
Food isn’t just about piecing together ingredients to make a meal. Food can nourish your body. It can help to heal certain health conditions or prevent other ones from occurring. Food can also impact your mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing too.
Studies have shown that eating healthily can improve your gut health, which directly impacts your brain health and can help to minimize depression and anxiety. By consuming more produce and less refined foods, you get more vitamins and minerals which can help to increase your energy levels, mood and help you to have a more positive mindset.
